Fruits and Vegetables Keep Your Bird Healthy

 

Nature provides so many healthy foods for our birds. The foods with the deepest color offer the most nutrition. If you allow your bird to regularly “Sample the color spectrum”, chances are they will live very long and disease-free lives.

Fruits and vegetables that are bright orange, deep red, dark green, purple and yellow are best.

While Asparagus, spinach and chard are not harmful, they will prevent the proper absorption of calcium if given in large amounts. Limit their intake.

Of course, every bird needs a basic dry diet available at all times. It is important to provide a combination of natural colored pellets, herbs, nuts, and dried fruits and veggies. It is crucial that you do not switch to a seed based diet. Sunflower/Safflower based diets are lacking in nutrition and very high in fat.

Some plants can be harmful to your bird. Be sure to look up any plants or flowers your may have inside/outside your home before allowing your pet on or around them.
